I think migraines are the devil!! Lol, for any of you fellow migraine sufferers out there, you can identify. I'm in the process of getting one right now. My jaw is getting tense, my head is starting to pound and even the brightness of my computer screen is starting to hurt my head. Thankfully, I only have to work from 4-8 tonight, so no closing ( Read more... )

I hope you don't mind my input here, but have you talked to a dr about this? As a "fellow migrane sufferer" I have found relief in some of the new medicines now available. They have to be used very carefully, but it is great to finally have found something that works.

Yes, they do have to be used very carefully because they can be very dangerous! Migraines run in my family and unfortunately my mom suffers the most from frequent three day migraines. She took immitrex when it first came on the market. Once, after having a three day headache and taking immitrex, she passed out from a bursting hemorrhage that was most likely caused by the medicine. It's one of those nice little comments at the end of the commercials (even if you have no known problems you may still die) lol. She fell onto the foot of a chair and cracked her cheekbone and wrist in three places! God was watching out for her because it was on a Saturday when we were all home so she received immediate medical treatment. She had a long recovery because it was a type of stroke, but she is now completely back to normal! Needless to say, I try to be careful and take the minimal drugs necessary and sometimes they don't work, but taking a hot shower and then going to bed with a heating pad on my head usually works after a while. Thanks ( ... )

Sorry to hear that about your mother. I believe when immitrex first came out it was only available as in injectable. And it was supposed to be taken at the onset of a migrane. Either way it's too bad that that happened to her. I thought that the first time you took it you were supposed to be in a doctors office.
Anyway, I think immitrex is a "triptan" of which there are several different varieties available now and they are in pill form. Some reduced strength as well.

Well, it was just an idea in case you had not heard of these. I have know a few people that they have worked very well for. Headaches can be very dibilitating and I don't think we have come very far in helping those that get them.

She took it when it first was in pills I guess because she never had a shot of anything. I belive it was in '98 or '99. She had taken it before and they did often work, but not always. She would sometimes wait until it was almost too bad to treat i'm afraid, instead of taking it right away. What is your name by the way? I checked on your livejournal but there isn't much info about you.

Also, I noticed you are a lover of coffee. I hope you mean decaf?

nope-I don't drink it on a regular basis though and not alot when I do, so my headaches aren't related to caffeine. Actually, in some medicine for headaches they include caffeine. I'm not sure why though.

I believe it's because caffeine constricts the blood blood vessels going to the brain. Even over the counter med's like Excedrin Migrane have caffeine in them. You can actually get hooked on the caffeine in these. Then when you stop taking them you get caffeine withdraw headaches.
