A recap of the costumes that a few young actresses wore to various Halloween events this year, ranked from best to worst:
Bailee Madison, age 10, and Ryan Newman, 11, at the Dream Halloween Benefit. Awww! Ryan's Minnie Mouse costume is adorable, age-appropriate, and fun. Not to mention original. I don't think I've ever seen a young actress dressed up as Minnie Mouse before. But I have seen many dressed as princesses, so while Bailee's costume is cute too, it's a little bit uncreative.
Kathryn Newton, 12, and Bella Thorne, 13, at the Ronald McDonald Camp for Good Times. I was pleasantly surprised by Bella's choice of costume. I've seen her in so many age-inappropriate outfits that I hardly expected her to go with something as innocent as Little Red Riding Hood. Hand-in-hand with Kathryn Newton, as Alice in Wonderland, they make an even cuter pair than Bailee and Ryan. (
Dakota Fanning, then 8, also went
as Alice in Wonderland to Dream Halloween back in 2002, but Kathryn's costume is much nicer.)
Shailene Woodley, 17, at Camp Ronald McDonald Halloween Carnival. Yikes. What the heck is she supposed to be? With the leg-warmers and watches, it looks like she was trying to recreate '80s fashion, but she just came out a sloppy mess. We shouldn't be surprised, since she wore
this similarly awful outfit to the
Teen Choice Awards last August; Entertainment Weekly magazine called her "the secret life of the American teenager who gets dressed in the dark."
Noah Cyrus, 9, at the Dream Halloween Beefit. Oh. The. Horror. I never thought anything could beat
Elle Fanning, then 6,
as Marilyn Monroe (at the 2004 Dream Halloween Benefit), but Noah did it. (But I'll take this opportunity to note a major difference between Noah and Elle. One of them is not riding off her big sister's fame, and one of them is.) Noah is the youngest young actress in this post, but she's wearing the most shockingly disturbing costume. What the heck is she supposed to be? A dominatrix? A child prostitute? Her big sister
Miley? (Maybe she can do a pole-dance in a few years, too!) Shame on her parents.
