Abigail Breslin's Upcoming Album & Book

It's always been difficult for a former child star to transition from acting into a successful second career. Shirley Temple pulled it off when she went into politics as an adult, but she was one of the few. Young actress Abigail Breslin, soon to turn 19, now seems to be trying it, and you have to admire her for that. Abigail has been acting with Hollywood A-listers since age 6, earned an Oscar nomination at age 10, and starred on Broadway at age 13. With an upcoming TV role in Fox's Scream Queens and several more movies on the horizon, Abigail is now adding author and singer to her resume.

This week, she announced that her first solo album, The World Now, will be released in June, and a book, This May Sound Crazy, to be published in October by HarperCollins, who are touting the memoir as a "collection of hilarious and heartfelt nonfiction essays." Certainly Abigail is the latest in a too-long line of celebrities to pen a book of this kind. Dave Linker, an executive editor at HarperCollins, says that "she channels the angst of her generation with a fearlessness that's at once hilarious and deeply moving." Abigail herself seems to be aiming more for the teenage Taylor Swift crowd: "I hope when you read it, you'll see that you are not alone, even when you're wondering when it's OK to text your crush first, which is the most terrifying situation ever."

'The World Now' is all new music that I wrote and it's the story of my life over the past 2 years and I can't wait for you to hear it😁😁😁😁

Abigail's album, meanwhile, has been a work-in-progress for some time. She has been writing and singing her own songs since she sang in her 2010 movie Janie Jones, and she released her first music video, "You Suck," last November. "You Suck" was written by Abigail, but it was mostly your standard pop song dissing an ex-boyfriend (in this case, supposedly Abigail's ex Michael Clifford, 19, lead guitarist in the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer) -- a very different style from the slower, more moving songs that she did in Janie Jones.
