It's been over 40 years since the 1974 Academy Awards, when Tatum O'Neal, then age 10, won Best Supporting Actress for Paper Moon, making her the youngest Oscar winner in history - a title that she still holds. Tatum took time off from acting in the '80s and '90s to focus on raising her three kids (and to deal with ongoing drug problems), and even though she began working again in the early '00s, it's safe to say that she'll probably never recapture the level of fame that she had as a child star.

But even though her heyday might be over, Tatum is still having an influence on young actresses today. In 2010, she played
Dakota Fanning's mom in
Runaways, and in 2011, when
Hailee Steinfeld, then age 14, earned a
Best Supporting Actress nomination for True Grit, she said, "Paper Moon with Tatum O'Neal was one of the first [movies] that stood out to me. Her role in that was a bit of my inspiration for True Grit - she was so independent."
More recently, another Best Supporting Actress nominee named Tatum's performance in Paper Moon as an inspiration to her. In a January interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, Emma Stone said that Tatum was the model for her character in Zombieland, where she played
Abigail Breslin's big sister. "I saw Paper Moon for the first time, which has become one of my favorite movies. That relationship between Ryan O'Neal and Tatum was kind of a model for the relationship that Abigail and I had because we were basically a family on the run but not necessarily family. And of course, they're con artists."
