In many ways, former child star Lindsay Lohan, now 28, seems to be trying hard to turn over a new leaf and persuade the public to take her seriously again. She's currently in London, rehearsing to make her stage debut next month in Speed-the-Plow, although she briefly returned to New York City to complete her court-mandated community service (part of her sentence for reckless driving and lying to a police officer after a 2012 car crash). While in New York, she stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to take the
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
After her docu-miniseries Lindsay ended in April to lackluster ratings, British newspaper The Daily Mail gleefully blasted, "
Even her ratings have hit rock-bottom!" But perhaps Lindsay didn't see that article, because earlier this week, she announced in an interview with The Daily Mail that she's planning to write her memoirs. "I've kept journals my whole life, since when I was a kid. I would never write to violate someone else or objectify them; that's not my intention. I like to write because it's like therapy for me. I want to put a lot of photos and cool stuff; it will probably be, like, a trilogy, like Harry Potter." Several years of Lindsay's adult life have been a cycle of addiction, jail time, probation, and rehab, and she said that she hoped sharing experiences could inspire others.
While many are dismissing Lindsay's memoir plan as a plea for attention, the news did grab the interest of another former '90s starlet, Mara Wilson, now 27. Mara mentioned Lindsay by name in her 2012 essay
Why Child Stars Go Crazy, saying, "If I were to talk to Lindsay Lohan, I'd encourage her to get the hell out of acting and into something soothing. Take up botany or something. But she wouldn't be likely to listen to me -- and not only because I'm younger and way less hot than her." When Mara heard that Lindsay was planning to pen a memoir, it led to this interesting Twitter exchange:
@MaraWritesStuff: Please let me ghostwrite your memoirs,
@lindsaylohan: Ill think about it! 📗📘📙📖 RT "

August 15, 2014 Mara avoided many of the pitfalls of child-stardom by walking away from acting before puberty, but as a contemporary who grew up in the industry, she probably still understands Lindsay's life a lot better than most. So maybe Lindsay will take Mara up on her offer.
