Remember
Rose McIver, the New Zealand young actress who was supposed to get her big American break as
Saoirse Ronan's little sister in The Lovely Bones? But while Bones
generated plenty of buzz, it didn't fare as well as anyone hoped. Since its release in 2009, Rose has attended the University of Auckland, made a few films in New Zealand, and had notable guest roles on American shows Once Upon a Time and Masters of Sex. She hasn't starred in anything as hyped as The Lovely Bones ... until now.
Rose at the CW's Upfront Presentation on May 15
This week, all eyes have been on Rose, now 25, at the CW Network Upfront Presentation in New York City, where the channel is spotlighting its upcoming shows. In the new show iZombie, Rose plays a college medical student turned zombie who gets a job at a coroner's office to gain access to the dead bodies that she must eat to survive. The role could be a star-making turn for her: the CW is hoping that iZombie will be as successful as AMC's zombie hit The Walking Dead, and The Hollywood Reporter ranked it at #8 on their list of
hottest pilots of the 2014-15 season. Rose said in an interview with The New Zealand Herald, "It's so exciting. I've been working out here in Los Angeles for a couple of years now and I have had some great roles. There's a really good satellite community of Kiwis and Aussies and Brits."

Rose also has the starring role in Lifetime's Petals on the Wind, a sequel to
Flowers in the Attic, where she plays
Kiernan Shipka's Cathy ten years later. Let's hope that Petals is at least a little better than Flowers -- and that 2014 will be a good year for Rose!
