Back in November, I read this article about director Joe Wright: "He's got his eye on Hanna, a spy thriller about someone resembling the teenage girl version of Jason Bourne. Wait, you're criticizing someone for being excited for a movie about a teen assassin...yet you're already badmouthing the movie because its about a...teen assassin? I mean you're already declaring that this movie(that of course you haven't seen) is pushing the envelope of shock value just for the sake of it? Without saying anything significant? This is like blind bitterness.

A premise alone isn't going to automatically make something good or bad. People are excited about it because of the talent involved and a reteam of an actress and director...Saoirse Ronan & Joe Wright. And since Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuaron were circling the script prior to Wright...i'm thinking there's something worthwhile on the page. I see no fault in actresses trying to stretch and challenge themselves by taking on roles that are not just them playing themself. That's how you get better.

That's really not what I said at all. I said that Hanna looked like a movie with shock value, which isn't always a bad thing. Some movies have handled shock value very well (Paper Moon, one of my favorite movies ever, comes to mind.) Shallow shock value is what sucks, and yes, I badmouth it because I despise it. I think you took my definition of shallow shock value as an accusation that Hanna would be such a movie.
