The 22nd Critics Choice Awards
Held December 11, 2016, at Santa Monica Airport's Barker Hangar. Hosted by TJ Miller.

This year, for the first time in their history, the Critics Choice Awards were held in December, rather than January. Perhaps awards season, like the holiday season, is starting earlier!

Little Saniyya Sidney couldn't have looked cuter! She was attending the show for the first time to support her period drama Fences, which had a total of seven nominations, including Best Ensemble (which it lost to Moonlight) and Best Picture.

Another first-timer, Auli'i Cravalho, 16, attended to support Moana, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature but lost to Zootopia.

The Best Young Actor/Actress Award was presented by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Bella Thorne, 19, who wore a sheer silver gown. The boy nominees this year were Alex Hibbert, Lewis MacDougall, Sunny Pawar, and Lucas Hedges, who won for Manchester by the Sea. The only other girl nominee was Madina Nalwanga, who didn't attend, for Queen of Katwe.

For her new film Edge of Seventeen, Hailee Steinfeld, 20, was nominated for both Best Young/Actress and in the adult category, Best Actress: Comedy (where she lost to Meryl Streep for Florence Foster Jenkins). Edge of Seventeen was also nominated for Best Comedy, which it lost to Deadpool. The Critics Choice Awards were held on Hailee's 20th birthday!

Back in 2011, then-newcomer Hailee won Best Young Actor/Actress for her film debut, True Grit. This year, she bumped into Jeff Bridges, her costar from that movie, on the red carpet! Jeff was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Hell or High Water.

Natalie Portman, 35, who won Best Actress for Jackie, skipped the red carpet, but she certainly posing in the press room with her award. She beat Emma Stone, 28, who was nominated for La La Land. La La Land had the most wins of the night with 8, including Best Picture and Best Director.

The Critics Choice TV Awards were presented together with the film awards this year. Ariel Winter, 18, and Sarah Hyland, 26, attended to support their show Modern Family, which was nominated for Best Comedy but lost to Silicon Valley.

Evan Rachel Wood, 29, won Best Actress: Drama Series for Westworld, and Anna Chlumsky, 36, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress: Comedy Series for Veep. Another '90s child actress, Anna Paquin, 34, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Roots, but didn't attend the show.
