So here is my birthing story:
We went into the hospital 9 days past my due date for another nonstress test. This was Monday, February 26 and they were going to induce me that Thursday if I hadn't had the baby.. Well I was so tired of waiting and in so much pain, so my provider who was on for the day said she wanted to induce me that day when I told her how overdue I was. So Mike ran to call our parents, etc. while they got my admitted and into a gown.. OMG! I was sooooo nervous because I wasn't expecting it.. I mean, at least I had my bag because by that time, that hospital bag went EVERYWHERE with us.. never know when it's going to happen. So they come in and ask me all the medical history, etc. questions and attempt to get me hooked up to the IV.. took them 3 tries before they finally got it in. So they start me on regular IV fluid at 10:30 and start my pitocin at noon. I was actually already having contractions so they considered it "augmenting" my labor. He started going into fetal distress where his heartbeat would go from about 172 BPM down to 40... they were giving me oxygen, rolling me around on the bed.. everything! Well let me back up a minute, the reason they thought he was going down was because he hadn't engaged and so to speed up my labor they decided to break my water. They thought he was getting cramped with no more amniotic fluid to float in so they stuck something up "there" and started pumping fluid back in. Well nothing was working and they were talking about a possible csection so they came in and gave me an epidural when I was about 5cm even though I was fine and not a whole lot more uncomfortable than I had already been. So they have the chief doctor come in and when he goes to check me, he gets looks horrified shocked look on his face. He goes "THE CORD IS COMING OUT!" Everyone snaps to it and starts unplugging me and throwing the cords on me, my provider jumps on top of me with her fingers inside holding the cord up. The chief doctor looks at me and says, "The cord is coming out! We have to take this baby right now, RIGHT NOW!! You could die, the baby could die, you could bleed to death! We are taking him in c-section right now!" They come in and throw me on a gurney and I take off my glasses and throw them across the room to my mom and they rush me out of there, RUNNING as fast as they can. While trying to get me in the surgery room, they ram my gurney into the wall.. Once they get me in there, they throw up my gown, put the paper on, the curtain up (so I can't see), strap me down and get to it.. I barely even got any spinal tap fluid so I could feel most of it.. The anesthesiologist (sp?) was holding my hand and telling me what they were doing and while they were pulling the baby out I got really nauseous and started dry heaving. Well the guy holding my hand got me one of those little pink kidney bowls and I throw up a little water while they bring the baby over to see me. Well it turns out that he had a bowel movement inside me and upon delivery aspirated some of the meconium... Icing on the cake, right? Doing that can cause pnuemonia (sp?) along with other horrible problems..
Well he got an 8/8 on his apgar and he was 8 lbs 11.6 oz, and 21.25" long and as healthy as an ox after they got him suctioned. Now he is absolutely beautiful and will be 5 months on the 26th! And he got rice cereal for the first time tonight and loved it. Hooray!
