Posting this just to confirm that this account belongs to the same person that runs the Dreamwidth account of the same name. :) Will delete this after I get confirmation of membership in the community over there.
I absolutely prefer long posts over the shortform blurbs favored on FB, Twitter, etc. I've always had a hard time cropping my thoughts down to the bite-sized chunks required by those platforms, it feels restrictive and even a bit shallow to me, so I hardly ever use those sites. Since LJ died I tried starting a Wordpress blog but couldn't keep up with it, it felt so impersonal compared to the huge interactive community that used to exist on this site. Nowadays I post on Reddit more than anywhere else since the community is large, diverse, and far more accepting of huge wall-o-text posts to the point where I almost always feel reasonably sure at least a few people will read and respond with their own thoughtful responses, and discussion can get very in-depth and personal. My life has not been going well in the last few years, mostly family issues and health concerns that are making things very difficult at times; I've found several really great support communities on Reddit that help me keep me sane though, it's nice having somewhere to go where I know people will relate to and empathize with me during times of crisis. Reddit is hugely popular now so you probably already have an account there, but if you don't I really can't recommend it highly enough, it's just an awesome site.
After thinking it over more I might start posting to my Dreamwidth account after all, so if you'd like to friend me over there my username is the same as it is here. It's nice finding actual humans to speak to on these old journal sites - it feels like wandering around in a wasteland after a nuclear holocaust and finally stumbling across another survivor. lol.
I'm not so good at longer entries, but I find it's good to get away from the attention seeking circles of mainstream social media and have some time out thinking, as well as reading better articulated pieces by others. I used Wordpress but only for specific pieces, like detailing roleplaying games I was running and such, it feels a bit too professional to be personal. Agree with Reddit, I'm always sulking around somewhere on there.
I've added you to my circle on Dreamwidth, which I'm presuming is the same thing. I'll put it on my to-do list to write something soon!
