Good news:
I will be working at an apple orchard this fall, just a half hour from my hometown! Ah, the rolling bluffs of the driftless area, the oaks and streams and walnut!
The summer is going well, though insects are a nuisance. Sometimes I wear a bugnet over my head so I can avoid the toxic bugspray. Ylech. But the things I see! Today I saw a
sandhill crane, quite close, and it made its bizarre honking/rattling call. A good friend of mine described them as being so beautiful and elegant, it 's surprising they aren't extinct. Also, I've seen amazing
orchids, giant yellow
birch--the golden tree of wintergreen bark, and shiny maroon mushrooms! And the constant bird calls are a sweet summer soundtrack.
Life unfolds itself wonderfully!
