sooo I'm just sitting at work. I have a desk and phone and computer and a pager (which I don't know how to use, and which let out some very loud polyphonic ring when I started pressing buttons). I don't have any work to do until Wednesday, I think, because my big boss man is in charge of everyone and they're having some kind of big inspection tomorrow from some new corporate manager people (this is what I've grasped from listening to everyone spout off lots of acroynms). I was supposed to have an orientation today but it's pushed to Wednesday.
There're 3 other co-ops here--I met one, the only one from MSU. He's ok, an ME, and there're two more engineers from OleMiss. wtf? olemiss engineering sucks...someone should tell them. Hopefully they're electricals since that's the only semi-decent program there. They were probably hired because half of the employees here are graduates (or dropouts) from here. I still feel pretty nice because i'm the only one they hired on the spot and the other 3 all had to come back for 2nd interviews.
I don't even know if I'm allowed to web surf or anything because I haven't been Oriented yet or whatever. I'm assuming it's okay since I have absolutely nothing to do but sit here or wander around the plant all day looking confused or lost when everyone else is working away. My buddy Mike said he heard I'd be doign some CAD work so I've been reading the help files since I learned absolutely nothing in Graphic Communications (the CAD class for engineers at state) because lame-o Michael Dampier decided to just do all of my drawings for me instead of actually showing me how to do anything. well that's not fair but whatever it's true.
I've gotten 2 plant tours while I've been here but I have no idea what a PTC or a TVS is and these are, apparently, big things to know, but since I have no idea what they are everything just goes over my head anyway. I ask lots of questions and I kinda made a friend with one of the guys at the next desk (they're grouped in squares with a curving desk at each corner, very nice) who's very friendly and is showing me around a little and helping me get set up. Another guy is nice too and walked me to their computer-maintenance area to get all of the codes and numbers to my new techno-toys.
and my ID picture is pretty.
hurray for work
i hope i get some work soon so i can actually do something semi good.
