You guys, I saw an ad for an awesome "Iron Man: Property of None" t-shirt in the back of the Obama/Spider-man issue, and now I can't find it anywhere online. *pouts* Supposedly it's from Marvel and Mad Engine, but I don't see it on their site. Pooh. Not that I was particularly planning to buy it, myself, as I have enough t-shirts, really, but...it ( Read more... )

I'm not in the loop ... what is the blasphemy deal?

It has a lot to do with the "Civil War" arc of the Marvel Universe stories. They did this huge crossover a while back where there was a Superhuman Registration Act proposed by the government. Long story short, it was passed, and Iron Man supported it, while Captain America did not (even though they were good friends). Cap led a resistance for awhile, and in the end there was a huge fight. When Cap realized they were no longer fighting to protect people, but just fighting, he stopped and pretty much singlehandedly stopped all the fighting. BUT when he was being led to trial for fighting the act, his biggest enemy had him killed (one of the many reasons superheroes didn't want their true identities revealed in the first place).

So Tony's support of the act led indirectly to the death of one of his best friends. It was all very sad and tragic.

About what they did to Wade... I have no words, only loads of slightly horrified disapproval. D;

And puzzlement, too, because none of the movie images I've seen as yet look like that either. I mean, the blades part, I may have seen in the movie footage (*sigh*) but the paint? I don't even know!

Exactly, and I agree with the people at the bugle.. what the hell is up with his mouth?
That action figure is just a world of ugly... and not even the good kind of ugly. ; (
Let's just hope he doesn't get his personality butchered as well... *wibbles*

(Also, I'd really like to know what the 'real' Wade makes of this, some serious 4th wall breakage is in order!)

HEE. Well, if comic-book Wade doesn't comment, perhaps ask-deadpool Wade will discuss.

Seriously, that mouth?! Why do they have to go and make him uglier than he already is required to be by canon.

I saw that about movie!deadpool too, and I completely don't get it. Firstly, it seems so out of nowhere, since all the Ryan Reynolds shots have had him in street clothes reminiscent of Deadpool's uniform. Secondly, it's super freaky. What's wrong with Deadpool's uniform, other than not seeing his face? I think his uniform is one of my favorites out of all the superheroes (certainly better than Wolverine's yellow spandex), and he looks cool in it. New Deadpool? Not cool looking.

I also sort of feel like they're screwing up a potential huge fangirl community, with the freaky-bald-middle-finger-sword Deadpool instead of cool-insane-katana-wielding Deadpool. It makes me wonder who they have working on these films.

I know! It doesn't even look like the movie footage, and it's creepy, but not in a good way. Deadpool's uniform is totally awesome (I agree that compared to a lot of them it's one of the most badass). Why not just go with some modified version of it? Or some form of mucked-up army gear (he wore army gear at least sometimes before becoming Deadpool). One of the most consistent things about the Deadpool art is that once he is Deadpool, like EVERYTHING he owns sports the symbol. I mean, he's got t-shirts, boxers, hats, jackets, etc. that have the emblem on them, when he's not wearing his uniform, which of course has the emblem on the buckle and often on the snaps of his pouches and stuff (even his katanas sometimes spell out DEADPOOL on the handles and his guns have things like "Deadpool's gun" on them a lot.) So it's clear that he has a thing about his appearance. Ironically he's almost vain (like when he does get disfigured, in the earlier comics he gets completely distracted from fighting if he loses his mask, and runs around all ( ... )

Hee, vain Deadpool. This is why I feel I can really get behind the character (at least in the comics). He's so funny :)

I went ahead and ordered Cable & Deadpool 3, and either I'll borrow C&D2 from you sometime or I'll try to make my way through the .cbr files. I figure new book, new arc, right?

One of the many reasons I ♥ Deadpool. (P.S. See icon for another example of Deadpool branding.)

You can borrow #2 from me if you want. You know, as long as you wear those little white cloth gloves to turn the pages. JUST KIDDING. :)

You won't regret ordering the others. The whole 50 issue run is pretty much made of win.

Probably has something to do with the mixed tone this film has achieved. Cartoony, ridiculous action sequences, mixed with "oooh, ahhh" gritty realism. Hence, oh, that Deadpool costume is too showy, he's a cancer victim, he should be bald. But we can't leave out that he deflects hundreds of bullets with his swords.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'm just really hoping that whatever they do to him in this movie, he ends up drawing a big enough following for his own movie without being turned into a character who isn't really him. *sigh*

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for the link (I run For The Love of Comics. I'd actually forgotten about that post, it was nice to be reminded.

Also, I'm really hoping that Deadpool thing is a huge April Fool's joke or something.

Oh, hi! I like your blog. I didn't know you have an LJ. Mind if I friend you here?

Yeah, ME TOO. I am reserving judgment until the movie, but it seems like there's a big chance for Deadpool in the movies to go either way. We'll see.

Also, if you're a 'Pool fan, you should totally look at my recent post on the Deadpool doll my friend made for me. Coolest thing ever:

Oh yes, I've had an LJ for YEARS. Feel free to friend me, but be warned that it mostly consists of my twitterfeed lately. I fell out of the habit of using my LJ and haven't quite figured out a good use for it again, though I'm working on it.

I'll be friending you, too, if you don't mind.

Also, that is an awesome Deadpool doll!
