The dangers of our urban jungle

That makes it five times I was almost run over at the intersection of Springer and El Monte. There was the time a woman was memorizing flashcards and not paying attention, the time someone was dialing a cellphone and zoomed in front of me, the time an old lady started accelerating while I was still in the way, the time I was almost squished in the area between two large cars going opposite directions and today when a woman started accelerating into me after suggesting that I was being given the right of way by pausing at the stop and then "changing her mind" while I was halfway across the walk.

I really hate it when I misread peoples' car "body language" If people are stopped, I found out that if I don't move, then everyone stops and waits for me. If I take the initiative, every so often someone "changes their mind" and starts accelerating into me when I haven't crossed yet.

To make matters worse, this stop sign intersection is always too crowded. There are always crowds of people waiting in all 3 directions in addition to me, the pedestrian, who has the job of trying to gauge everyone's intentions, whether or not they have seen me, and which direction to sprint if I misjudged. What sucks is, no matter who made the mistake, I have less mass than everyone's cars thus I'm the one dying no matter what.
