Is this thing on?
Let's hope.
Okay, so i finally got around to finishing watching Torchwood's latest series, Miracle Day. Overall, I was very impressed. It was definitely a different feel to usual Torchwood - being set in America and all, but it was also kind of refreshing as a one off. I can't see a way back for Torchwood just being in Cardiff though, which is a shame, because there was something homely about it being just UK. Oh well...I guess we'll wait and see.
Storywise, it definitely kept me guessing about what could have caused the miracle, though when it was finally revealed to be Jack's blood, I had a mixed response of "oh, duh!!" and "...couldnt they have thought of something better?" It does make me kinda sad now that Rex has become the New Jack with his whole immortal thing. I guess I should have seen it coming, but I liked the whole thing with just Jack being unique - especially as it was a nice reminder and link to Who/Eccleston etc. I remember when Rhys was part of Torchwood, kind of...that was fun! I kind of hope they keep him again and build the new team around Jack, Gwen, Rex and Rhys....I think I could tolerate Rex as long as it doesn't become All American Torchwood....because dammit, America, Torchwood is OUR baby! ;)
Gwen was nicely kickass in this. Rather think I'm girlcrushing on her now - when she blew up Cowbridge (?) that was just SO AWESOME OMG. And with a motorbike too - very Matrix!
Ooooh I want to take this moment too to mention that I LOVED the little reference to Ianto. Absolutely loved Ianto, and was crushed when he died last season. As some people know, I have a bad knack for picking favourite characters, and then suddenly they die. Wonder if I'm cursed sometimes...anyway....
Gilly Kitzinger (whose name I know I've spelled wrong but can't be bothered to look up...), I love her designer. The whole character concept and look was really awesome and I wouldnt be surprised if it gives the whole blazing red lipstick thing a comeback. I liked how borderliner she was....never sure quite on whose team she was playing, though I have to say, can't blame her for running after the Familes in the end. Someone in her position, whose seens as much "sewage" as she put it......certainly a case of "shades of grey" I just generally want to steal her whole look. Don't think I'd make a very good ginger though.
Could never make my mind up about Oswald Danes. I'm glad they developed his character - he's vey much a immoral, evil bastard, but his character defintely made you think.
Vera's death was horrific. I'm glad they didn't pull their punches on that one, though I do think the censors could have let up a little....though maybe it was good we didn't literally see her burn..the imagination afterall is strong and powerful enough. Possibly the imagination would conjure up a more horrific image than tv could ever be allowed to show.
What else can I say? Hmmm.....I'll have a think and might come back to this later on.
