Today, in my American Revolution class, the professor asked how many of us would have remained loyal to England if we had been alive during that era…I was the only person to raise my hand. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife (provided by the students, not the professor).

I find it a bit funny; I’m certain that more of my classmates would have been afraid to defy England during that time (which was my reasoning for remaining loyal, among other things), but the picture of the colonies as the oppressed underdog against the English tyrant is so ingrained into the American psyche that to say such a thing is seen as subversion. In any event, I think I’m going to enjoy that class. ^_^

All of my classes went well…of course, I have three chapters and two medieval documents to read for Wednesday, and I have to read the US Constitution….and I’m working almost constantly outside of classes (for a temporary period, thank God). Still, I’m going to enjoy this semester a hell of a lot more than last semester.

And I’m already brainstorming possible ideas for future books (what’s the informal requirement for tenure? Two books, twelve articles, or something along those lines?), and the thought occurred to me that I could very well write a biography of Anne of Cleves…or Catherine Howard…or both (at the same time! That one’s for Becca). In any case, it feels strange to already be thinking about such things, but it couldn’t hurt.
