Went to go see "300" last night. Not gonna give a good/bad review on the movie in this particular little rant. The movie itself has zero to do with this posting

You would LOVE movie theatres here in Japan. LOVE THEM.
1. Assigned seating. Yep. You heard right. Assigned seating. For those of us who like to go to the theatre early and get tickets, we can also choose exactly where we would like to sit in the theatre. It's brilliant! Also, if you show up late, you forfeit your seat. No exceptions. You just have to take whatever seats are left. And if there aren't any seats left? Oh well. You get a refund and you have to come back some other time.
2. People here are encouraged to take their children EVERYWHERE. This is mainly because of the myriad TV commercials showing people taking their children EVERYWHERE. However, the one place where I guarantee you will NOT see very small, out of control children is at the movies. Parents *gaspshockdie* WAIT until their children are old enough to have some self control before taking them to the movies. And even then, they don't take them to movies that aren't age appropriate.
3. This is the cellphone nation. Everyone has a keitai, and everyone is constantly texting one another. However, when the little "Silence your phones" message comes on the screen (which is in Japanese, by the way and I *still* get what's up) EVERYONE goes for their phones and either turns them off or on Manner Mode. The first time this happened, I was so shocked, I could only sit there and stare in amazement.
Is it that Japanese people are somehow better or smarter or more with it than American people? No. They're just as dumb and weird as people are anywhere. However, I think that the Japanese still have a culture where shame works. They also have a culture where considering the group is just as important as individual consideration. Folks in the good ole U.S. of A could learn a thing or two from that.
