Many of those who read my LJ know that my friend and former partner and co-parent, Torbin, died very unexpectedly on Feb. 28. Our daughter, honouring his wishes and also because that's what she herself thought was the right thing to do, hosted a party to celebrate his life this past Saturday.
It was an amazing event, a gathering of friends old and new, some from many miles away. There was food catered from Torbin's favourite restaurant, Smoke and Spice, where they knew him as a friend and always asked after B. and the Mouse. There were munchies and a fabulous guacamole made by the Mouse. There was an assortment of single-malt scotch, his favourite beers, and the latest fancy - absinthe, complete with absinthe glasses, spoons, and sugar lumps. There were many pictures and a scrap book of his early days that we think his mother must have put together. There was a Hobbit-party room, for people to take mementos in the shape of clothes and books and other things. There was music.
And a high-light for me - there was Morris dancing by B, her friend Reed, and our friend Jordan, accompanied by Ferdubh (Duffy) on Bassoon. It made me cry - but it was happy crying, I treasure it.
By calculation (though people were not all that sober at the end) the party lasted 14 hours!
Good night, sweet prince.
