Interesting weekend. I'm stressed out due to re-certifying for my housing assistance. But at the same time the place is looking so much better that I feel contrastingly happy. Weird.
I have to find and finish a pile of supporting paperwork. That's the problem with being an Olympic level procrastinator. I must have everything ready for my housing office appointment in 3 days. It's going to be another 6 hours of finding and sorting papers. I managed to mix all my current documentation into a big pile of things that I have from boxes dating back to 1987. Oh boy, what fun.
Good things this weekend include having the bluetooth headset I mentioned in a recent post. My stress level is very survivable thanks to being able to listen to favorite music in a way that screens out environmental noise. I hate blasting my stereo to screen out the neighbors, it's just too loud. I may at some time do an web radio broadcast with some of the fun alternative covers I have in my db (Trent Reznor doing "Immigrant Song", anyone?). Also, I now have a comfy reading corner set up. My reading area works great as a place to sort out the paperwork.
Tech news: I have Windows 7 working as a virtual machine under Mint Linux. I also purchased a copy of the Mac OS X install discs before Apple went to online-only installation. So I am getting a virtual Mac machine going someday. Why? Well for one thing, I am playing Diablo II and other Windows games of which I own copies. It was nice to find the box of old computer games. Even more fun to be able to play them. Also, there are a few things I can run to better effect on Windows than Linux. Additionally, I find Mac has some better free sound mixing and management applications.
As for gaming, I put my campaign on hold until mid-June. I need to recharge creatively. The other roadblock is that I need to concentrate on cleaning and my housing re-cert paperwork. I have not been taking care of sleeping properly, which has been a negative for keeping my plotlines coherent and moving forward in an organized way.
My big goal for the next two months is developing better personal care habits. Sleep! Yes, sleep is a good thing. Getting better physically means that I can now overdo everything. It's hard to get used to having energy. Even more difficult to re-learn how to manage b
eing able to do more. What's been happening is that I keep going until I fall asleep in my chair. Then I wake up and cannot find my glasses (which fell off my face at some point). At least I don't face plant when I pass out, I just sleep slumped in a sitting position.
Exercise is going well. Bought a flat weight bench for $10. Cost me just under $7 to fix the broken braze-ons holding the pad to the frame. Had to buy some bolts and a round file to repair things. The bonus was being able to see I could DO something useful. I am so happy that I've been slowly collecting tools.
On the subject of tools... My friend Dwarf and I are finally going forward with our plan to put together a workshop at his place. We've discussed it for years. The problem has mostly been getting the space. Dwarf now has fewer storage conflicts, so we can use his garage.
I need to get in touch with many of you who read this journal. I'll be having a major birthday next year. It would be nice to be able to invite you if I can find a place to hold the party. See you all later.
