Today is my first day on the job as a Staff Sergeant. I still giggle a bit the few times I've had to call myself Sergeant Jenkins on the phone. I do this every time there's a promotion, though. ^_^
So 4 1/2 years in, and I make NCO with a pending assignment back out to Japanistan, where the magic all started for me after Weather School. A bit poetic, I suppose. There must be a few lessons I didn't quite get the hang of, for the universe to send me back to Japan. I'm a little bit older and hopefully a bit wiser, so I plan to "do it right" and save a boatload of cash this time.
I also got an update from Toyota about how much of my car loan I've paid off. I have managed to completely cover the interest incurred from the loan (lousy 6.25%!!) and put a $3,000 dent into the $16,000 price tag of my Boxy Cleopatra. Given the terms of the contract, I suppose they had it set up expecting me to eventually get sick of the ridiculous payments & sell the car back to them for whatever I could get. Screw you Bob Larson, I am paying this bad boy OFF before I return from Japan & I plan to honk obnoxiously whenever I pass by your dealership in the future. I pay $400 a month now, which is about $30 more than the minimum payment required; the additional stuff managed to accrue into getting me a full payment ahead already. Once I settle in Japan and get my bills set up, I plan to increase that amount so I can have it paid off earlier than the projected 3 1/2 years I have left. :P Ideally, with my rock-tastic super paycheck from overseas, I would LOVE to bump up to about $750 per month, which would have the car paid off in about 18 months. It means I'd have little to no COLA for a good bit of my tour, but I want to just OWN this car and see my credit score jump up while my insurance slides down a bit.
I WILL own my car before my return to the North American continent, because my paycheck has been devoted a fair amount to it over the last 2 years & my plans post-Air Force pretty much require me to have a car for school/work. It's on like DONKEY KONG, Toyota Financial!! I was watching Roadhouse earlier and I am JACKED UP on Coca-Cola, so bring it ON!!
