Financial Aid was very good to me... not spectacular but I received the full amount of stafford loans (they increase every year...for me it was 2.5k freshman 3k sophomore and 5.5k junior and senior years .but i think loan packages went up this year). I also received 21,000 in tution grants and merit based scholarships plus student work study. One thing about financial aid is to get your paper work in right away because they start assigning aid as soon as the papers come in and if you're at the bottom of the stack then you're screwed. so then when you get for initial package if you don't feel like its enough...appeal it. its called a "recon" (reconsideration) so what you need to do then is write a letter to your financial aid counselor or to the VP explaining why you really want to go to fordham and how much going there would mean to you and then why you need more aid then fafsa allocated you for. for example when I did my recon I had a lot family issues that a form couldn't acocunt for...like the fact that my grandmother and neice lived with my parents and were supported by them but not legally. my dad had just been diagnosed with parkinsons etc. so there were extra circumstances that necessitated more need. Also (sorry this is long) if you haven't applied yet... really really really beef up what your community service and school involvement is or at least looks like on paper...fudge it a little bit because some of the fordham scholarships are allocated for people with community service and extra cirricular activities... I got $7,000 just for that!

as for the area and dorm. LC is great. its a very safe area..close to all kinds of things. however, if money is an issue i would consider moving off campus after your first year. make a few friends who are interested and move up town or to Astoria queens or something. Dorm room rates work out to cost your about $1,300 per month. I moved to washington heights where I currently pay only $650 a month plus like $75 for utilities. HUGE savings and then you also don't have to deal with fordham's crazy housing rules. stupid reslife.

Good luck!

Oh my God, thank you so much for the anecdotal advice. I've been told that I should go to the best school I can get into, so if I get into Fordham, I'll go. :)
