Hi guys. I'm seriously considering transferring to Fordham(Lincoln Center Campus) for Fall of '08. Does anyone have any advice or little known info about financial aid, housing, or just general treatment of transfers ( Read more... )

don't go here unless you have to. teh_fox November 19 2007, 04:21:15 UTC
fordham will probably not give you housing at LC. if they do actually give you housing, it will be at rose hill and you'll have to take the "ram van" to lincoln center. and fordham is a bitch about taking credits and if they do take your credits, they will make them electives and not applicable to the core or your major.

and the requirements are totally retarded (5 semesters of a language that are 3 credit classes with a 2 hour lab every week if you are anything but a natural science major... yea, pretty sweet...plus at least 3 semesters of religious philosophy classes and all that fun stuff.)

they also don't tell you anything and basically the place is run by a bunch of monkeys.

That's not true. They tried the 5-semester language requirement, but they realized it wasn't a good idea, so they changed it back to 2 semesters. And since when do they require three semesters of religios philosophy? When I went there a couple years ago, they required two semesters of theology and two semesters of philosophy, but most schools will have similar requirements and if you don't want to take a ton of core, don't go to Fordham. You should know what you're getting into.

And they do apply transfer credits to core and major classes, they just have to be "comparable" to Fordham's classes.

You need to be persistent with Res Life. They probably won't give you housing right away, but if you keep calling, tell them you really need it, and basically be really annoying, they should give you housing. Most people I know who transferred and got housing got the call just a couple days before the semester started, so you might not want to risk it. But everyone I know personally who needed housing and bugged Res Life got it.

Then they changed it again. When I went there, they changed the requirement for the class of 2007 (the year after mine). So, yes, I was exempt. But I was also an Ambassador for the admissions office, so I had to know this stuff ( ... )

thats simply not true. I'm 2008 now but I entered class of 2009 and they as well as class of 2010 and 2011 have to take 5 semester or until level 2001 for language core. the only people except are pre-med, pshycology, business and i think theatre majors (but i could be mistaken about the last one).

As for when to apply do it ASAP! housing lists and financial aid are done pretty much based on when you apply for it. so the sooner you find out if you get in the sooner you can appeal for higher aid (which you can always do, they may not always give more but its damn well worth trying) and the sooner you can put yourself on the waitlist for housing. And actually transfers are not last. Order of preference goes: RH(or marymount) internal transfers, then external transfers like yourself, then LC/RH commuter students who wish to switch to dorming.

Good luck.
