Uh.
I guess it's been a while, hasn't it? There have been a few things that are 'of note' which have occurred, but we'll keep it to a few bullet points just for the sake of simplicity:
First, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is lovely. Absolutely one of the best films I have had the pleasure of watching in a long time, and not just because Tom Waits turns in a fantastic performance (though that certainly doesn't hurt things). Everyone puts in a good performance, and really the whole thing is just very nice to experience.
Secondly, I have started to work on my MA dissertation proposal. I have accomplished this by seeking out articles on House of Leaves and even Only Revolutions; plus I am now almost through House and have the notes to prove it. Unfortunately this is a book that is exhausting to read without reading it analytically, so the past couple of days have been spent cooped in my room reading, muttering to myself, and generally acting like some kind of shut-in with occasional visits to the store or to the rooms of others or (as in the case of this evening) to get some Chinese take out.
It's been raining a lot. That makes it easier to stay inside and work, but it wears on you eventually. Yesterday, the sun came out for the first time in a long time. Today it also came out for damn near the whole day. I needed it, and it provided a perfect setting for the new sort of existence I seem to be leading.
More than a few days ago, I did something incredibly out of character (I was a little drunk) fully expecting, even at the time, that my pessimistic appraisal of the inevitable result would be accurate.
It was not. My wildest dreams have not come true, but the world still proved me wrong.
I'm interested as to whether or not it will continue to do so.
Terribly so.
