I have no idea how to use the LiveJournal app

Does anybody else feel like they’re just waiting for things to get worse? I used to wonder what my life would be like twenty years in the future, and I was super optimistic. Now I just dread it. I can’t see what else there is to gain, only that there’s grief ahead. The future terrifies me. Right now I have my cats and my mother and my job and I’m ( Read more... )

I still get email notifications from LJ and it's still exciting getting a new post notification, even though they've become such a relic now!

I think we're all collectively suffering from this weariness of the past two years (and counting). I also lost a lot of drive or enjoyment that I had, because everything feels so uncertain. But I think it's even more important to push yourself out of it. Things you mention - the climate, the future.. They worry me too and sometimes I wonder if we're overblowing it (like, every generation had their own big bad) or are we actually going into a mad max situation... But what is true is that this is out of your control. Worrying about the climate won't change whatever is coming our way. So it's a burden on you that you can't even resolve. It's a "we'll deal with it when we get there" situation, because the worrying only makes you feel worse (I'm talking about the universal you). I think, now more than ever, it's important to be especially mindful of the good things in life, of the good things in your life, the big and the small and appreciate those.

I can get pretty pesimistic in my thoughts, but if I learned anything since the time when LJ was actually booming is that that doesn't do anything, but make me feel worse. There's no point in pre-worrying about things outside of your control. We're 33 and that's still so young! There's so much stuff ahead and not just bad ones! Go and try to put up the tree - maybe you're not feeling it, but taking an evening to do something fun might make you get there. At least your cats will get to destroy something new. ;)
