By dating my journal, I’m having a much easier time remembering things so long after they happened. Thank goodness for the copious notes I wrote!!
So, on Friday 5 January, 2 days after Environmentalist left, Miss Teacher and I went to watch Tha Boyz at Trader Duke’s. Sweetheart wasn’t out, but her parents were, so we all sat and chatted. Afterwards, we convinced Drummer Man to come out with us to O’Malley’s, where Miss Teacher’s NZ man was. It was his second last night in town and so she wanted to see him. Firstly we went back to Drummer Man’s so he could leave the van and have a couple of drinks to catch up to a slightly drunk Miss Teacher. He gave her some home brew Malibu which really knocked her for a while. He told Sweetheart we were stealing him away and off we went. He seemed to enjoy it, but not hugely. While Miss Teacher and NZ Man danced away, Drummer Man just kept drinking, sitting out on the side. I kept him company and we had a good chat. He was quite uncomfortable cos O’Malley’s doesn’t have a smoking section close by - you have to walk out of the complex onto the Esplanade - because he was still smoking at that stage, this was quite an inconvenience for him. We were paying out on the band and generally having fun, albeit we were being wallflowers. When we were all over it, we headed out to have a look at the beach, and ended up down there, jumping down thru dunes and rocks, wandering around. I had a good chat with NZ Man while Miss Teacher and Drummer Man lagged behind. Before we even got down to the beach, NZ Man made a comment akin to assuming Drummer Man and I were together. Drummer Man didn’t say anything, but Miss Teacher set him straight. NZ Man didn’t believe it and just said, “Hell no, those two are so married, they’re perfect for each other”. After a bit of silence, we were on the sand.
I drove Miss Teacher and NZ Man back to his sister’s place again, then planned on dropping Drummer Man back at Sweetheart’s. Before we pulled away, NZ Man winked at Drummer Man and said “Hope you have as much fun as I do”. Drummer Man replied with, “Aw man, she’s taking me home to my girl”, to which NZ Man replied with, “Whatever man, you’re in denial”. I already had the car running and so drove away as Miss Teacher said “ssshhh” to NZ Man. Back at Sweetheart’s house, I had really planned to drop him off and leave, it was a bit late. Yeah right, I should have known better than that. We had a bit of back and forth banter with him trying to convince me to come in for a drink, despite me being sober as a judge and him not really needing any more. That went on for a little while before he grabbed my arm and in I went. Fine. We sat out the back and had a long chat while he drank … he made me taste some home brew vodka he’d been given that smelt like turps and tasted like water. Hit me hard tho, so at 3AM, on that little bit of vodka, I couldn’t drive home. We continued to chat until it was almost dawn and I decided that perhaps it was best I went home. Lucky I didn’t have to work in the morning!!
Saturday 6 January … after sleeping a fair bit of the day I’d say, we got dolled up in dresses and headed out to Friday’s for, surprise surprise, Tha Boyz. We had pre-drinks at Miss Teacher’s house, where I drank a lot of vodka quite quickly. And it was the wrong vodka (mental note - never drink Cruisers, especially blacks, again. Smirnoff is fine, Cruisers not so fine). I was pretty darn drunk before I even got to Friday’s. I actually don’t remember a lot of the night, which at the time, was quite rare for me. I remember teasing Olly that we weren’t allowed to kiss, even though Rysi was pushing it. Olly seemed interested in a Monty’s girl that was out with them, tho Dreadlocks Jnr was proving to be competition. Aw, sad lol. At the end of the night, Miss Teacher, NZ Man, his mate and I were walking back to Miss Teacher’s … I think that was the plan. We stopped along Brisbane Road and just sat, and that’s when I get a real black out. NZ Man asked for a hug from me, which I gave him. It seems it wasn’t just one he asked for or that I gave. Then the hug got a bit inappropriate - his hand went where it really shouldn’t have gone. I don’t remember this part. Then *boom* all of a sudden it was like I woke from a sleep and saw Miss Teacher power-walking away from us, NZ Man’s mate running after her, and I realised NZ Man is about to kiss me. Understandably I was a bit surprised. I asked him what the hell he’s doing, throwing it over my shoulder as I crossed Brisbane Road to chase after Miss Teacher. His reply was that he was a kiwi on holidays, just having some fun. I believe my reply to that was “f@!k off!”. I caught up with a very upset and determined Miss Teacher, and I couldn’t blame her. I felt horrible, it was so out of character! She finally responded to my apologies and talking to her, then it started to rain so we hailed a taxi. NZ Man’s mate jumped in with us and we also picked up a quite sheepish NZ Man as we drove past. I honestly didn’t know what to say, I felt like the biggest bitch, but I was honestly in a blank. We drove to Djembo Man’s house where a lot of people had headed back after Friday’s. I felt horrible so I just flopped down on a couch inside and let NZ Man and Miss Teacher sort themselves out. There was nothing more I could do. The girl from Monty’s that Olly was keen on seemed to be really be more interested in Dreadlocks Jnr (they were giving each other massages), so Olly became a bit upset and left. Aw, sad lol. We stayed a bit longer before deciding that it was time to go home. We called a taxi and waited outside, along with the rest of the crew who were waiting for cabs too. That’s when Miss Mauritius and Snowboarder turned up. They had taken the scenic route home, via the park it seems, for a little bit of “alone” time hehehe. Miss Teacher and NZ Man were fine with each other - she was still going to go back to his place - and I just sat on my own and kept out of their way. Dreadlocks Snr came and sat with me at the end of the driveway and kept me company. He then tried to hit on me. Ew. Then he tried to kiss me as we hugged goodbye once the taxi had arrived, then tried to get my number before the taxi drove away. I was shutting him down, but Miss Teacher felt the need to protect me by pulling me into the taxi behind her lol. Nothing to worry about there, I’m certainly not interested in him.
The next day I probably didn’t feel as bright and sparkly as I could have done, but still much better than I thought I would. But I vowed to never drink Cruisers again.
