Random Wednesday

On Wednesday 27 December, I headed to Friday’s for Drummer Man’s solo gig.  Sweetheart was out with an ex-colleague of hers, Flighty, her husband, Chopper, his brother, Baldy, and his fiancée, Miss Grammar.  Miss Teacher came along after seeing a movie with her mum and sister.  It was a fun night, Friday’s was absolutely packed (a complete turnaround from the past few weeks) and they even kept Drummer Man playing for an extra set, despite the fact he was losing his voice (by the end of the night he was barely croaking, poor guy).  Flighty, Chopper and Baldy were all pretty pissy, while Miss Grammar was sober.  It was Baldy and Miss Grammar’s wedding day on the coming Friday and they were staying in Mooloolaba, stumbling distance from Friday’s.  Flighty used to work in Sweetheart’s salon years ago but then moved on to be a flight attendant with Emirates for a few years.  She now manages a beauty salon in the Cayman Islands … as you do.  Her husband Chopper flies helicopters in the Middle East, 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off.  As you do.  Baldy works in a similar field, while Miss Grammar works as a primary school teacher at one of the local private schools.  They were so much fun and though I wasn’t drinking, I  felt like a drunk as I danced stupidly in sync with a very drunk Flighty.

We both recognised the other’s face, but couldn’t pick where from (this was before I knew she was ex-Emirates crew.  Sweetheart said that I looked like Grace from Will & Grace and though Flighty said she had thought that as well, it wasn’t from that.  It took me a while but I clicked that I knew her face because she was the poster girl for Emirates a couple of years back.  We never quite figured out why I looked familiar to her though.

After Miss Teacher arrived she decided that because it was so busy, she wouldn’t mind having a couple of drinks - could we drive her car back to her place and I drive her back to Friday’s, then home?  Sure.  That was at the original end of Drummer Man’s gig.  While we were running Miss Teacher home, Sweetheart smsd me to tell me that Drummer Man was going to go on for another set.  Noice.  Miss Teacher also wanted to be able to have a few drinks because a boy had caught her eye.  She picked him as a Kiwi straight away, but she had some competition for his attention as some complete skanks had set their sights on him, too.  He was classic Miss Teacher style - dreadlocks lol.  I didn’t see the attraction of him, but that’s were Miss Teacher and I are lucky - we aren’t normally attracted to the same guys, or if we are, not anywhere near to near the same degree.  Kiwi obviously found Miss Teacher attractive, too, and he was finally able to shrug off the skanks and dance with Miss Teacher.  Her attention was then mostly on him for the rest of the night (a behavioural pattern she hates in other people lol).  Lucky we were at Friday’s so I was pretty comfortable, and there were people I knew around, otherwise I would have been less than impressed.

Sweetheart’s friends left after Drummer Man finished and we all sat outside - Miss Teacher and Kiwi off by themselves, Drummer Man, Sweetheart and myself, along with Kiwi’s mate just sat around and had a chat.  Smoulder’s son, Military Man (he’s off to the military soon) was wandering around on duty and we had a seat and a good chat.  He recently broke up with his girlfriend, who I was confirmed with many years ago, so I know the whole family.  We had a d&m and even talked about body pillows lol.  Miss Teacher told me later that Smoulder was standing off to the side keeping an eye on us lol.

After a while I wandered off inside to have a fiddle with Drummer Man’s guitar.  It wasn’t long before Drummer Man and Sweetheart came in so he could pack up.  I kept Sweetheart company while Drummer Man packed the van and then it was home time.  I left Miss Teacher inside, she was going to find her own way home.  She really liked Kiwi, but as usual with her, he was a Kiwi and he was only here temporarily.  Not that it would have mattered much otherwise - she was leaving in January anyway.
