I think the effect your commenter might be noticing is related to the kind of personality who would make the choices that gun ownership entails. If you're willing to grapple with 1, 2, and 3, then you probably have an aura of 'I am proactive about making life or death choices' (whether you make smart or stupid ones). People respond to that level of confidence or bravado in a way they don't to (say, on the opposite end of the spectrum) a wallflower.

Not saying, to be clear, that all people who get guns are thoughtful, powerful, self-confident sorts; there are plenty of people who get guns because they are violent, aggressive, and stupid. But animal nature is wired to respond to a certain level of confidence or aggression as 'that's a dominant personality' and, yes, dominant personalities will more often end up with money, girlfriends, and votes. Whether they get them nicely, or get them by terrifying people into handing them over.

I'm pretty sure that's the observation your commenter is reacting based on. What they perhaps don't understand is that the only response to the violent, aggressive, and stupid dominant personality with a gun is a thoughtful, powerful, self-confident dominant personality with a gun. The wallflowers and submissives never win that contest. Even if you take the guns away, the dominant people will duke it out with fists, or words, and the wallflowers and submissives will still suffer.

The choice is never 'sheep or wolves.' It's 'wolves or sheepdogs.' Choose wisely.
