The arts do inspire so much. I remember when I heard that ridiculous Muslim Hug Guy story after the Paris attack, I thought, "This whole situation with Muslims reminds me of Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind."

When I was in my early twenties, I read that book, which had a part about a race of red-haired people who had been conquered by guilt by a race of dark-haired people. The red-haired people had to attend pc classes where they'd weep and tear their hair out with grief remembering all the atrocities they committed against the black-haired people, like, a century ago. At the end, both kinds of people held a candlelight vigil for peace to welcome the horde of extremists who came to slaughter them all and take over their city.

The book that came after that was called Faith of the Fallen. I was really excited by the ideas in the book. I found out later the author was inspired by Atlas Shrugged, which was as good of a read. The main hero in Goodkind's books believed in individual rights and the value of every life, but he also believed that people had to be held accountable for the consequences of their actions. He had a certain luster and was able to get people to see things his way. It was the first time I ever encountered the idea of personal responsibility.

Thanks for sharing this. It's true how art can deliver a message that stays with you for years, even before you can fully understand what it was you read or watched.

That's why I don't understand why conservatives and especially Christians don't use it more often. And when they try, they don't seem to do it well. It becomes too "over the head" and such. Or just poor quality in general.

It's endlessly frustrating for me!
