So, I was kinda pondering politics, and I had an odd thought. That having been the similarities between the position and platform of a few politicians across a span of 50 years or so.
It's no surprise that political parties change over time, Nixon was in favor of "medicare for all", and a "guaranteed national income". He was also a highly polarized narcissist that viewed his political opponents as the true enemy. Remind you of anyone?
But he isn't who I was thinking of. That was just an example to get you thinking outside the box. I was thinking of a prior president. One that was very big on scientific advancement, that had a very bright vision for the future, favored gun rights, private property rights, nuclear power, and was amazingly strong in his opposition against foreign enemies. He bore, in many ways, a striking resemblance to one of the most mocked and derided figures from the 2008 Republican primaries. Hell, they're both even catholics!
I am speaking, of course, of JFK and Newt Gingrich.
Funny how the worm turns, isn't it?
In terms of the vision each gave voice to for the future of the country, the belief that great things are possible, that the best course is forward, and that the most beneficial policies are those that foster human creativity, they're practically identical! And one is held up as a great hero of the left, while the other is a crack-pot right wing fanatic.
