Through Light And Dark

We may not speak
for days or weeks or months,
that does not mean I do not care.
I may not find the words
to keep you safe, to stop the pain,
that does not mean I do not care.
At times we disagree
fall into silence, do not speak,
it does not mean I do not care.

I make a vow when I commit to friendship,
as long as you stay true then so will I.
I will not stand to be abused or lied to
nor will I willingly cause any harm.

I lost my words
and find that now I need them,
let me assure you now, I do still care.
I cannot keep you safe,
stop the hurt or tears approaching,
that does not mean, my sweet, I do not care.
Dark times may be ahead,
when stormclouds gather, lightning strikes,
remember then that I still do care.

I make a vow when I commit to friendship
that through the dark and light I will be there,
despite the silence and the storms of feeling,
whenever things get rough, I'm always here.
