I leave for New York on Friday!
of course that means I am leaving at the ass crack of dawn... actually it's more like the tailbone of dawn, because we have not even reached the ass crack yet at this point. I'm going to have to be at the airport at about 4:00am. FUN!
BUT that means that I'll be to camp early, so maybe I'll get to choose the best tent? Probably not; I imagine they'll have already been assigned.
So I am this general counselor guy, right, but I also have to come up with some of my own activities for the kids. I was thinking of maybe leading a story-creating/telling class. It's tough to think of new things that they don't already have in place. I would have liked to teach trombone or something, but they only have string instruments there so that's a no go.
I am pretty excited about the whole ordeal, I am just wondering what it's going to be like to live in a tent for 2 months and not have my car or cell phone. It will definitely be a change but I am looking forward to it. Don't forget to give me your address if you haven't already so that I can write you letters! I am not sure how intermittent email access is going to be, but I don't think it's going to be all that regular.
I just hope I can make some great friends pretty soon. That first time being anywhere can be tough, but I really do think it's a great experience every time I go through it. At least I know that there will be a ton of other people there who have never been before and will be looking for new friends.
I'm bringing the Hobbit, Eragon, and The Golden Compass to read to the kids. Anyone know of any other books that 9 to 14 year olds would enjoy and I won't have to spend a lot of money to get? Lemme know.
