Everton defender quits Portugal

Everton Football Club defender Nuno Valente has retired from international football.
The Portugal star has 21 caps to his name, but after being overlooked for the Euro 2008 squad, he has decided to call time on representing his nation despite being considered by Carlos Queiroz.
"I've been very pleased to receive this provisional call-up for the 2010 South African World Cup,” Valente told the official club site. "Nevertheless, I feel I've done my job.
“But I'm not capable of representing my country as a player should."
