Ferguson: Ronaldo Back To His Best

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a trademark free-kick only three minutes into the game at Old Trafford as Manchester United cruised to a five-goal victory.
Ronaldo was also on target with another free-kick at the end of the game to grab his ninth goal of the season.
According to the club’s official website, manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he feels Ronaldo is back to the sort of form that saw him score 42 goals for the Red Devils last season.
“You saw his celebration, he was very pleased and the crowd were delighted,” said the Scot before adding, “"He's on fire now, he's back. He's overcome his operation and he is getting quicker with every game. His fitness levels are fantastic. The boy is back.”
Goals from Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov and a debut goal by Danny Welbeck sealed the win against a Stoke City that had previously beaten Arsenal and secured a draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
The champions coped well with the physical threat offered by the Potters and Ferguson admitted his side had prepared well for the threat of Rory Delap’s infamous throw-ins. He said: “We did some work on it during the week. We handled the throw-ins very well - I think the crowd helped us there!”
The result sees United leapfrog Arsenal into third in the table and next up for the Red Devils is a trip to Villa Park to face Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa.

Ronaldo proud of landmark
Winger delighted to surpass 100 goals for United

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his pride at netting a century of goals for Manchester United.
The Portugal international scored his 100th and 101st strikes for the Red Devils in their 5-0 thumping of Stoke on Saturday.
Ronaldo, who signed for United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, is eager to add to his tally as the club's charge to retain their Premier League crown gathers pace.
"I feel very proud," said Ronaldo.
"One hundred goals is a great achievement. I have 101 for this club now. This is my sixth season here so I think that is fantastic."
Meanwhile, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his concern at teenager Danny Welbeck's duties for England Under 19s, who take on Germany at Colchester on Tuesday.
Welbeck
Welbeck netted a stunning goal on his league debut on Saturday, but Ferguson fears the 17-year-old risks suffering a long-term injury.
"He has hardly played since he got the injury playing for England in the first place," said the Scot.
"Now he is going away to play for them again on Tuesday.
"You don't get a break with these things. I would prefer the boy to get some basis of training before he starts playing football all the time.
"He is still a boy. He is growing and maturing in his physique.

"We have to be careful with that. If they keep getting small injuries, it ends up with a big one."

Ronaldo celebrates his 100th United goal but Rooney is out of Germany clash

Cristiano Ronaldo's 100th goal for Manchester United lacked only bows and a gift card to Sir Alex Ferguson.

On the day Ferguson was celebrating his 50th anniversary in professional football, Ronaldo scored twice as United overtook Arsenal to claim third place in the Premier League with the 5-0 destruction of Stoke.

The Portuguese star, who spent most of last summer agitating for a transfer to Real Madrid, produced two fantastic free-kicks to rank high in the catalogue of United goals.

His first from 25 yards, which brought up his century, swerved beyond Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, who was left punching fresh air in the fourth minute. His second also evaded Sorensen - plus a seven-man wall - two minutes from the end.

Last night Ferguson summed up the significance of Ronaldo’s return to devilish form when he said: ‘Cristiano’s back on song.

‘We’ve waited for it to happen and today we saw his real power and acceleration.’

But even on this day of celebration Ferguson could not avoid controversy. The United boss left England stars Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferguson out of his team yesterday - and then confirmed that neither would be available for the friendly with Germany in Berlin on Wednesday.

‘Rio injured his back in training on Friday and Wayne has a chest infection and a calf strain,’ said Ferguson.

United’s manager, who also withdrew Darren Fletcher from Scotland, has often clashed with England managers over player availability and he will be not shedding any tears over Ferdinand and Rooney’s absence from national duty.

His priority will be to have them at his disposal for United’s next game against Aston Villa in Birmingham on Saturday.
