"She's perfectly able and big enough."
"She's eight! An eight-year-old in a bar! Absolutely not."
"I agree. We can't let her go without someone there with her."
"In any case, I'm not against letting her go, so one of you will have to accompany her."
"But..."
"You're..."
"That's that."
Hotaru peeks in the room. "Have you all decided yet? If I can go visit Milliways yet or not?"
Two of them turn to her hesitantly, the third goes back to sorting through her papers.
"It's... not that we don't want you to see your friends again, Hotaru..."
"But... a bar? With who knows what going on?"
"They're not just 'my friends,'" Hotaru clenches her fists. "They're more than that to me, they took care of me."
"That was a long time ago, Hotaru."
Hotaru glowers at her parents, turns on her heel and darts out the front door.
After all we've been through, they don't think I can take care of myself?! Hotaru runs through the woods behind their house, full of hurt. I have to go back.
Two hours later, Setsuna drops the book she was quietly reading while there was some peace in the house. "...Hotaru?!" She goes outside. What... What is this? She's gone? I didn't sense it?? How?!
The portal found her, she didn't find it. But she willingly went through. Milliways was always an unpredictable force that way. At the end of the long corridor through space and time is a door. The forces set her down, and tentatively she touches the handle.
She gulps, "Now or never," turns the handle, and pushes.
