rice noodles--a Hsinchu specialty since the city's windiness helps dry the noodles and make them taste better...supposedly
scallion pancake with egg
pork cutlet with curried potatoes (not enough curry) and veggies
--went downtown yesterday night (30 min. longer bus ride). shopped around after dinner but didn't find anything. the guys didn't want to shop so they went to a pub, where they didn't find out there was a $10 min/person until right before leaving. apparently, taking bus #1 at night is very popular. seeing a cold stone in hsinchu is weird.
weekend adventures:
woke up early to ride with my uncle to taipei (my cousin is training for some math competition in singapore)
went to see my aunt. was allergic to her house. she asked if i wanted eyelid surgery (no) or to take hormone supplements (again, no). she is stubborn and drives me crazy....can't do extended visits. walked around and had a pastry filled with creamy chicken to tie me over. lunch was at this veg. buffet restaurant that was packed.
i love steamed egg custard
kiwis are better
attempted to find the chocolate box hostel. wandered around, met a creepy cyber cafe foreigner, and finally used the internet from the microsoft tent setup outside a department store to look up the hostel....met the rest of the interns there
headed off to see the chiang kai shek memorial hall that is being renamed b/c of it's association with china
then off to the snake market (huaxi) and ate some snake (kinda like chewy pork that's a bit grainy)
sorry it's blurry
then visited longshan temple, found dinner at the shida night market...went back to get ready
went clubbing at luxy...pricey (800NT tho it came with a drink) but prob b/c the shop boyz were performing...don't care for them or their song which they played more than once....they played a weird combo of music but overall it was fun to dance
next morning, MRT and then bus to wulai....walked/climbed stairs to the train and then again to the cable cars....there's an amusement parkish area up on the mountain but it doesn't really open until july...but nice views and i got to soak my feet. then a bunch of traveling back to the taipei main station and then bus back to hsinchu...totally passed out on both bus rides....so much walking
my mentor is out for the rest of the week so......and i'm still attempting to do work.
What i ate:
helped make dinner: spaghetti sauce with kang kong veg. and rotini
taro filled bun...not enough taro
lunch at spring...nice....was overstuffed
clumpy noodles with a sesame sauce
salty soymilk with fried bread
walnut bread and guava
curry with fried fish fillet and a hard boiled egg that was unnecessarily fried
meat bun with peanut rice milk
soup noodles--yum
fried pork cutlet with chili bamboo shoots, cabbage, and fungus
steamed sticky rice filled with mostly daikon radish and a five grain drink
cold noodles----sauce was sweeter than i would've liked
fatty pork belly with sides
odd breakfast sandwich of tomato, piece of beef, and egg....like an asianized hamburger
fish with rice and sides
vermicelli noodles in a broth with yam leaves (which i love)
rice porridge with bamboo and pork; milk tea
