My apologies for not posting about NORMANDY. Even though I should have all of two weeks ago.

I'm still somehow recovering from it? And life has been crazy. BUT MOSTLY STILL RECOVERING In My Bunk.

The Helen/Will just makes NO SENSE AT ALL and to be frank, is a little bit gross.
If Amanda herself screws up her face when people mention Helen/Will shippiness because Helen bounced Toddler Will on her knee when he was TINY... then you just know how wrong it is.

Helen can only be in a justifiable relationship (even a casual one) with someone who can understand her, empathise with her, know her.
All other relationships just have a troublingly unbalanced power dynamic to them i'd imagine.

It makes me soooooo frustrated with Sanctuary, how they paint Will as this sexy lothario man. I can't even understand wtf anyone is thinking by writing him that way. He just comes off annoyingly cocky and a bit of a manwhore.

I'm a total Will-hater, and NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT, which clearly puts me at odds with the majority of the fandom.

But I liked Will a LOT in the beginning. He was a great 'Every Man' character who was intelligent and insightful but not enough to be cocky about it, and had this great yearning to be recognised and appreciated that I think a lot of us in life feel.

But then he became CAPTAIN JUDGEMENT who lays down the extreme judging on everyone he meets... and in particular Helen.
How he even dares to judge her and condemn her for her life choices is beyond me... who does he think he is? He's a nobody compared to her, and should NOT be her Second in Command. He's in no way qualified for it.

It just aggravates me... because Robin Dunne is such a sweet funny and lovely guy, like genuinely a complete 'Diamond Geezer' as we say over here... and is like LEGIT sexy.
And Will is the complete polar opposite, but they try and pretend he's some hot-ass Casanova and it just gives me serious secondhand embarassment.

Basically - Gross.

We've seen more Will than Helen in Season 3.5... this is painfully uncool.

People would be up in arms if The Moff suddenly starting writing Doctor Who whereby Eleven is OFF BUSY AT AN INTERGALACTIC CONFERENCE AND SORRY CAN NOT BE HERE and every single episode focussed only on Amy.

It was just... so not-classy.

AKA - THE EPITOME OF WILLNESS. Unclassy to the max.

I think what annoys me most about Will and how he's turned out is the fact that he had all this potential to be such an amazing character. He started out being this awkward brainy personable young guy who as kindof like THE VIEWER. The outsider looking in, you know? We were learning about the Sanctuary with Will as he expanded his own view of the world.

But he just changed so so much and became someone who swings between casting doubts all over every decision Helen ever made and naysaying her and JUDGING her, and trying to be this awkwardly chummy not very good psychiatrist for her.

He's not her protege, he's not learning from her, he's stopped being a guy that is RELATEABLE in my opinion.

Instead of loving and trusting Magnus, he comes across half the time as thinking she's fucking crazy and in need of professional help.

In the words of Zach Galifianakis in Due Date... "YOU BETTER CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU MESS YOURSELF."

It hurts because I used to love Will, and now I can't stand the sight of him, just because of the way his character has been developed.

STILL LOVE ROBIN DUNNE THOUGH. Which is something fandom seems not to understand.
You can love the actor and hate the character.

It feels so much of the time like the show is about Will... that Will is the lead, not Helen.

Sometimes I wonder if he really is and I just didn't realise!!

It's just very frustrating isn't it. Sometimes Will has these moments of brilliance and I remember why I loved him in early season one... and then he gets naked, shags some skank, and steals people's food.

UGH UGH UGH.

Hey, just popping in to say I agree with this entire conversation about Will's development post-season one. My comment under this one is kind of weirdly flaily, but basically I thought I was alone in disliking/hating what happened to Will's character because I only ever meet Helen/Will shippers and Will lovers (sort of; they just don't really see the bad) but now I know I'm not alone and I love it!

To be fair though, disliking/hating (let's be honest here, it's more the latter than the former) what's happened to Will's character is a REALLY REALLY unpopular opinion in Sanctuary fandom, and most of the tie it warrants a lynch mob being sent after you.

I only feel vaguely safe ranting on my own lj, and ranting here, because yo i'm The Mod so if someone kicks off at me bout it, I'LL KICK OFF AT THEM RIGHT BACK and be well within my rights to.

Abuse of Power ftw.

It's sad to see that Helen/Will shippers seem to be the VAST MAJORITY of online Sanctuary fandom. Especially when not only is John/Helen and now Helen/James COMPLETELY CANON, but Amanda 'Queen T' Tapping herself says that JOHN IS HELEN'S TRUE ETERNAL LOVE AND THE ONE SHE'LL ALWAYS LOVE AND HELEN/WILL HOOKING UP WOULD BE KINDA GROSS.

The way all of fandom idolises Amanda, you'd think her word would be GOSPEL LAW.

Oh no, I try to keep myself safe by never saying anything about Will when I'm in other places. I feel pretty safe here though seeing as it's a John/Helen comm, and finding other people who feel the same way made me want to speak out and say, I'm part of that tiny, little group as well. But yeah, I've recognized that it's a very, very unpopular opinion but that's where I tend to live in fandoms. I'm used to it.

I approve of your Abuse of Power though. I'd do it. ;)

Um, well I ship Cordelia/Angel, which is like HUGE unpopular opinion in the Buffyverse. I also ship Wesley/Lilah and Buffy/Spike.

Oh, I think I'm in the minority cuz I don't ship Helen/Nikola. Every since someone pointed out that he read gay for them, that's all I see so I just can't with them. I will say, though, that AT and JY have really great chemistry and I enjoy all of their episodes. I'm not sure if shipping Kate/Henry is unpopular but I imagine it would be cuz I've seen Will/Kate shippers out there too.

Going back to Angel, I adored Cordelia Chase. She's a pretty hated character in that fandom. I was meh about Fred only because I thought her character had so much potential pre-season 5 what with her being in that hell dimension for like 5 years. I guess I just didn't like how she became the middle of this love tringle between Gunn and Wes. I am a fan of Illyria though, and Amy Acker is one of the best actresses out there! She is something fierce!!

I don't think many peopled like Alpha/Echo in Dollhouse, but I loved them and their insane-ness. I pretty much hated Paul in it, though I did like him with Mellie/November. I ship Adelle/Dominic in that fandom too, and Adelle is basically my queen. Oh, I ship Whiskey/Topher. That would've been amazing, though I'm pretty fine with Topher/Bennett.

Just reading this back, it's all mainly to do with ships. :/

But yeah, those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Idk if you know of the fandoms. I'm not active much in any of them. What about you? What are your unpopular opinions?

Oh and can I just say that I think they need to use Kate SO much more in Sanctuary? I would've LOVED it if it had been Kate and Helen stuck in that time dilation field thing in 'Carentan' rather than Will. I think the scenes between Kate and Ravi would've been gorgeous, and I would've loved to have seen how Ravi would've reacted to a much more patient Kate, because I think she's changed a bit since he's seen her. I want to say that's not so unpopular though.

Anyways, that's all I've got. LOL.

Oh, I just realized I didn't touch on Firefly. Maybe tomorrow, this is already quite long...

Oh you are few and far between. Most B/Aers I meet are opposed to C/A like no other. I'm glad you aren't like that. but yes, they did indeed frakked it up. I would say that I'm still mad at Joss for what he did, especially to Cordelia. Oh and I read this amazing fic a long time ago about how it was like for Cordy being stuck in her own body without any control and it just revived my hatred for Joss. That guy. Ugh. I have no words.

I did like that girl too, but I'm just so opposed to Will being with anyone at the moment and the fact that they keep doing it is so annoying that I automatically don't like it. I would've liked the girl more too if she hadn't been interested in Will at all because she was smart and had potential to be a really cool (possibly) one-shot character. Whatever. I've sort of resigned myself to not always getting what I want. At least I'm not alone in thinking that having Kate and Helen together would've been awesome.

Ugh, that season would've been so much better if nothing had happened with Cordelia and Connor. I don't even know why that happened because it was a total crap way of bringing Jasmine into the scene. Just total crap. Oh and can I just say that it pissed me off even more that they killed her because Charisma had signed on to do the 100th episode as long as they didn't kill her character and after she signed the contract they went and told her that that's exactly what they were going to do. Horrid! I do like the way she went out, and I also tend to believe that she didn't died, but that she transcended. That makes it only slightly better.
