"Now my dear, we're both reasonable."
The look on the woman's face was enough to show he was- had- overstayed his already worn welcome. It was always the same, people wanted his help yet when the time came for payment it was as if a great gloom swept over the land. The Marquis found it amusing, after all he was nothing if not fair in his work.
The woman turned heel and vanished on a puff a wind, leaving behind only a small trinket to fall in the Marquis's hand. He smiled, holding it up to the light before placing it in his vest pocket. How he missed his coat, but of course that would be taken care of soon enough.
He turned and tapped the wall, giving it a sharper look when it stubbornly stood still. It took a moment to give way, opening to darkness that put the hairs on the back of his neck on end. He forced his hand away from his throat.
In another moment it was bright, well brighter at least, the little abode he had last seen his dear pet project in. "Richard." He called, waltzing in very much like he owned the place, which was possibly true considering how much Richard owed him in return. "Come out, we have work." The dark edge to his tone and sharpness of his smile made the shadows of the windows tilt away.
