Ying taught herself martial arts from a book when she was a child, and practiced her technique on the village children. Not only was she a terror to the neighborhood, but her form was horrible. It would take a lot of training after she joined Shu to UNLEARN it, and even then, she will lapse into it when fighting on instinct.
Ying's father, Huang Chenyan, used to be a prominent politician until Dong Zhuo, the tyrant, rose to power. When he left, many politicians would come to visit the Huang family to persuade him to return. Ying's favorite game at the time would be to use her knowledge of politics and philosophy to humiliate the politicians. Considering she was only a child at the time, the politicians' "pwnzing" at her hands brought her extra delight. Especially since they were "bad men."
Ying considers Pang Tong her best friend.
Only Zhuge Liang (and therefore, Koumei) may address Ying as "Yue Ying." She prefers the formality of "Lady Huang" or the informality of "Ying" from her comrades, and she considers the usage of her full given name to be fairly intimate.
