East Meets West - fade in NYC

Mar 28, 2012 16:50

Monday was fade’s show in New York City, their debut in the United States. And let me start off by saying it was a good one.

I got to the venue around 4 PM as I was there to help out and prepare gift bags from people attending with trinkets from the sponsors of the East Meets West event.

One of the first things I did after getting inside and meeting with another US street teamer, was introduce myself to Jon, who was chilling out inside as the band prepared for their sound-check.

Not sure if I’ve ever met a sweeter and friendlier guy. All smiles and greetings, he thanked us for helping out and aided me in locating the band’s manager so I could talk a little business.

Afterwards, Rui came over and introduced himself to us and we waited around for Dorian, the woman in charge of the event to show up and put us to work, meeting her intern and listening to fade play So Far Gone and Last Man Standing through their sound check.

Afterwards, Godo passed by and stopped to greet us. Without the body paint and contacts making him look absolutely wild, he’s actually quiet and very polite. He complimented my Japanese ^^;> Hehehe…

After we got around to starting to put gift bags together, fade’s manager dragged Kansei over to say hello to us. He decided the best way to start up the conversation was to discuss energy drinks.
And I made the mistake of telling him about Four Lokos. Or I told him, specifically, DON’T get one. (Of course, the following day, I see this blog from Godo).

Me: “They’re illegal in some states because people have died from them.”
Kansei: “…How do you spell the name?”

Ahh, I should have known XD

Rui came back around at one point and asked us about how the L’Arc concert had gone the night before and Jon also browsed back over to take a photo for fade’s FB page.

Let me be honest, my hand was resting on the small of his back and it took all my strength to resist sliding it down and giving that ass a slap. No, Alisa, act professional!

RIZE had also come in and sound checked along with the hip hop acts, Hip Hop Gamer (who was too much fun to talk with, such a doll) and JR Junior.

Once all the gift bags were prepared, we changed and went out to get some hot drinks. We went across the street from the venue to a boba place that offered hot boba drinks. Hot boba. Wtf? I never even thought you could have boba drinks hot. Never considered it. Was very confusing.

And very delicious. Jon seemed to think so too. He asked where we had gone when we returned so I told him we got hot boba tea. He didn’t believe me, so I let him try mine, he seemed as impressed asnd shocked as I was, lol. Don’t blame him. That absurdity was ridiculously good.

Place was called Just Sweet Café, in lower Manhattan. 83 Third Avenue. Try it, wish I didn’t live in CA just so I could go there regularly X____x
Ended up buying Jon cup of honey green tea. Sweet thing tried giving me money. Oh no no no. No you don’t.

By that time, the DJ had started playing and then Hip Hop Gamer went on.
If you’re into hip hop, he’s definitely an artist to check out. Very entertaining.
Although I have to say the highlight of his performance had to be a little Japanese photographer running around trying to take photos while also rocking out and jumping to the music. Ahh, I died laughing.

I finally caught Noriyuki during JR Junior’s act.
I found out about two weeks before going to New York that my boyfriend and Noriyuki’s sister used to work together in Japan. Small world, right? Wild.

RIZE

After RIZE shook the venue, I managed to get up right in front of the stage, exactly in front of Kansei’s spot. He had asked us before going up what was something he could say during the MC to make the crowd go wild and that he was worried about his grammar. Precious. I told him not to worry about it and that the worst his grammar was, the cuter the girls would think he was.

I snatched a photo of the set list as they were setting up.

Let It Go ended up as the encore song.

After the first MC, which consisted of Jon thanking everyone and talking about fade’s upcoming album and how they had “just finished the mother-fucker up” Kansei was taking a little extra time to adjust his guitar and sound board.

After stalling twice for him, Jon turned to Kansei and asked, “Hey, Kansei, how many beers did you have before the show?”

“Uhhhh… Four.”

And he had one onstage that he chugged down during the second MC. He picked up a second after and instead of downing it, he reached over and handed it straight to me -_____-
I don’t drink, Kansei~

I passed it to the girls next to me instead.

About their performance however…
It was brilliant. They sounded on point, Jon’s vocals were fantastic and hot damn can Kansei play that guitar.
The venue was alive the entire time they were performing and they dominated the show.
The chorus of Kings of Dawn is still ringing in my ears as it seemed everyone it that club was singing along. I loved that they placed Beautiful and Last Man Standing too. Their set list was all too perfect.

Truly a fantastic band that I would see again in a second.
What surprised me most was how Godo seemed to be smiling almost the entire time that he was playing. Unexpected from the image I’ve had of him.

I genuinely hope that all their fans around the world can have an opportunity to see them perform.
Those men are incredible, both in music and as people.

After the show ended, we left pretty quickly since we had to get up early for our flight back to CA the next morning. I did caught Jon again on the way out and we exchanged thanks for the evening.
I only wish I had a chance to tell him how much I admire him, his spirit and all that he’s achieved thus far.
He’s become my inspiration.

Those guys are amazing.
That’s all I can say.
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to meet and help them.
All the motivation for my future, and all my best wishes for theirs~♥
