Everything was finally set. )
He probably should stop that list now. He probably should not have started it in the first place, but it did not seem right to gloss over any of it. With another quick, steadying breath, he continued, "But, all of those things have made it clear to me what truly is important in my life: you. Everything else is incidental; you are the one thing that is not.
"I can survive calling the forest home, rather than a house, and I do not mind being considered a 'dead' man, if it is because I am doing the right thing with my life. Part of me wishes that I could keep you from this manner of living, but I also know that it would be doing you a disservice to want that, as you are more than capable of facing any challenge that comes your way."
He was talking too much; there was so much he wanted to convey... "You are what has gotten me through the darkest moments of my life, what has made the brightest moments worth celebrating, and made all the moments in between mean something. I can think of nothing more perfect than to share every future moment with you, if you would let me." Get to the point, Robin.
The last time he had done this, he had knelt amongst the ravaged remains of the meal; the Locksley washerwomen had never quite managed to get the stains out of the knee of those trousers. Fortunately, there was no mess this time, and he could kneel without ruining his clothing, though he would happily have sacrificed these trousers, as well.. "Marian, will you marry me?"

And then he was kneeling. She took a deep breath, a smile almost blossoming on her face. She couldn't quite believe this was happening. For a moment she had a flash of memory, a young man kneeling in food that had been ruined and Marian's automatic yes.
"You are worried that nothing is legally recognised with you but you forget, I am in the same position as you. And the law here is corrupt and foul. I care little for what this law recognises as legal. Things they claim are legal are wrong in my eyes. We are in this together, Robin, we always have been. Even before you were an outlaw. When we were children, you were the only one I ever...considered such a future with. And no matter the situation, be it in Locksley as a Lord or in the forest as an Outlaw I have always loved you and wanted to be yours. I have always been yours, my heart and soul belong with no one else."
God she wished that they could have had this life long before now. And she didn't want to wait any longer than she had to, she wanted to be his.
"I love you, Robin of Locksley. You had no need to ask, of course I will marry you."

He was already smiling at her by the time she accepted, and he broke into a happy grin at her agreement. Standing again, he kissed her enthusiastically, breaking off only long enough to murmur, "I love you," against her lips.
Finally, it occurred to him that there was still something left to do, and he winked at her as he moved back just far enough to take her hand and slip on the ring he had chosen for her. It was not as grand as some of the jewels they managed to obtain, but those were to feed the poor. He honestly hoped she would not mind this one.
((OOC: We decided the script around the setting on that ring would be a floral pattern, instead, for Marian's ring.))

She let him take her hand, her eyes watching as the ring slid so easily onto her finger. It was strange, when the light hit it just right the stone twinkled in such a way that she was only reminded of Robin's eyes. Looking up at him, she reached out to pick up the tag around his neck.
"I want to ask something of you and you are free to tell me how ridiculous you find it. But I left the engagement ring you gave me when we were younger in the box I gave you. Would you wear it next to your tag?"
She had her reasons, but she did not want to go into them.

It was a simple thing, and he would be glad to do it for her, but he was curious as to her thoughts behind it.

"Because who is to say that a woman must be the only one to have a ring that shows the world she has been claimed by a man?" she said with a little grin, tapping at his cheek. "I have seen the way some girls in the villages look at you I would rather they were well aware that looking will do them no good."
Reply
"In that case, I will certainly wear it. No sense raising any empty hopes."

She was glad he didn't seem to care, that he was willing to do so. The sun hit the ring again and her eyes fell to her finger, a grin spreading across her face as she took it in. It didn't take long for her arms to wind around him and her lips falling hard against his own.

His smile widened at her expression as she looked at her ring; he was pleased that she seemed so happy with it. Then she was kissing him again, with quite a lot of intent in this one, and he held her close as he returned it.

"Perhaps we should enjoy this picnic before the animals get to it."

Once Marian had taken a seat, he handed her a plate and waited for her to dish up what she wanted before doing the same for himself. It was a decent spread, all things considered, although not too much that it would deplete their stores or keep food from hungry villagers.
"I know it's not as good as what Thornton would concoct, but what do you think?"
