Who: Isabella and Marian
What: exchange their needles for swords
Where: Nottingham-ish.
When: 5 November, afternoon

Isabella had had enough. She had been good these past few weeks, since things had settled down and she and Thomas had begun settling into their own house. She'd told herself that maybe, being in Nottingham, where she had access to family and friends, that things might be different. Maybe they had just gotten into a rut back in Shrewsbury, perhaps they just needed to shake things up.

She'd been wrong.

Having her birthday hadn't helped. She was twenty-nine now, one year closer to thirty, one more year with nothing to show for it. She could have had grown children by now. But she didn't, and she was still stuck in her hateful marriage. Isabella had done her best to be a good wife, to soothe the poisonous feelings of resentment that never quite went away. But her birthday had been a disaster, reminding her why she'd left and that she was sick of trying to hold everything in. It wasn't enough to actually make her consider trying to leave again, but it was enough to make her brave enough to push her boundaries again.

Some while after her husband had left on an errand of some sort, Isabella decided to do something about it all. She told the cook that she was going to the castle to call on Lady Marian, and she tied on her cloak and left.
