A Council of Nobles (Open)

When: October 10, morning
Vaizey adjusted his ermine as he reached the tower base. There was always a need for formality at these events: overawed nobles were less likely to be complaining nobles. Plus he noted a definite chill in the early morning air as he strode through the portico... the harvest season was coming to a close and the people were ripe for taxation now, while they still had resources to be seized.
He was looking forward to this announcement. He could always tell who would be able to pay as soon as the words rolled off his tongue...he was expecting Wollaton at the very least to forfeit a portion of his lands, and he expected to make a tidy profit by selling them off to the neighboring abbey. The abbot had been eying Wollanton's holding for years and he would jump at the chance.
The look on Wollantan's face would be a small consolation for recent events. Of course, nothing could make up for the escape of Hood, but at least with this tax he would regain what had been stolen. Possibly even more; Hood was such a fool, the idealistic idiot had made no difference in anyone's life but his own. He had merely inserted himself as yet another middleman in the constant tug between peasant and overlord. His King would not thank him for that.
Vaizey pushed open the Hall doors and stalked through the crowded chamber before seating himself in his own cushioned chair. Church-bells rang out as he surveyed the room and the sound made him smile. Announcing a new tax was certainly a better use for a Sunday morning. He waited a moment as everyone settled onto the hard, wooden benches he had ordered set up. They had needed more seating to include the merchants, and uncomfortable was always good. It could be...informative...to watch people cope with small annoyances.
