Here are some pictures of the outside of The Hermitage in St Petersburg - formerly the Winter Palace of the Russian Royal Family now part museum part art gallery - especially for bubblebear79.



The art collection was started in 1764 by Catherine the Great. It holds a really great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection (my favourite period) icluding Renoir, Van Gogh and Monet. It also has two paintings by Raphael.

The story goes that when the Bolsheviks stormed the Palace in 1917 they couldn't find the room they needed to go so ended up running around inside for an hour or something. Just like you see in the movies.

Anyway here is outside from across the Neva River at dusk
