When I moved to
my current place in late 2015, I felt I was gaining a lot but losing one thing: a suitable restaurant within a short walking distance that could serve as a back-up when cooking seemed too onerous. In many ways it's been good for me not to have that back-up. I've gotten better about stocking my kitchen and coming up with meal ideas so that I can usually come up with some sort of meal without a lot of time or effort invested.
Whatever the case, I took it as fantastic news when I learned that
Zayna Mediterranean would be moving into
the old space that Molina's Midway Restaurant recently vacated (after deciding to bring 64 years of business to a close). The reason I had never considered Molina's a "suitable restaurant" was that they were a better place for family or group dining--or at the very least couples' dining--not the kind of place you could plop down for a solo meal without feeling a bit out of place. Besides, many of those aforementioned low-effort meals were Mexican or Southwestern dishes anyway, so I didn't feel I would gain much by going there instead of staying put.
Assuming Zayna moves its small tables with it, it would be fine for solo dining. And their fried cauliflower sandwiches are heavenly--as is their falafel. I have no idea what time line they're on. Nothing seems to have changed at either the old Molina's space or their current one.
Speaking of their current space, the acoustics there are atrocious. It can get very loud when the place is full. The move will be a plus for that reason as well.
I've been meaning to post a list of my recent reading, so I guess that's how I'll close.
