War and Chickpeas

My annoying neighbor Jennifer was shouting at someone or something at a late hour last night, so I'm not quite as rested as I'd like to be today. But I'm functioning relatively well nonetheless.

According to Democracy Now!, George W. Bush just bought a home in a formerly all-white neighborhood. He'll be living in a gated community that "until 2000...had a neighborhood association covenant that allowed only whites to own property. The document said the area's land 'shall be used and occupied by white persons only [with the exception of] domestic servants of a different race or nationality in the employ of a tenant.'" I think it's appropriate that an heir of a Nazi financier, whose two presidential terms were won via apartheid elections, is now going to live in an apartheid community. It will be quite a change happening next month.

I don't normally eat a lot of veggie burgers, but since I have a small surplus of pickles right now (a long story), I've been eating more of them lately. It's not easy finding decent buns for veggie burgers. They're either too big for the patty or similar in quality to Wonder Bread. Right now I'm getting by with some slightly oversized ones from Trader Joe's.

The Lebanese restaurant near my house, El Saage, has started giving customers French fries with their falafel sandwiches (for the same price). That may give me an incentive to resume my habit of spending too much money there.
