It's insane outside our house.
The National Grid Gas Alliance appear to be undertaking a full-scale invasion.
Fortunately, we are huddled away in a little corner all our own, somewhat shielded from the insanity by a short stone wall and very tall conifers. Tall conifers aren't popular, generally, but recently I've found them to be A Very Good Thing. They deaden the noise of jackhammers and generators, for a start.
First there were 2 vans and 1 mini digger and two smallish holes. When they'd finished for the day they put out a couple of cones and a bit of blue plastic railing to keep the unwary at bay.
Then there were 2 vans, 2 mini diggers, one smallish hole and one small but loooooong hole. When they'd finished for the day, they put out quite a lot of blue plastic railing. Plus a 6 foot wire fence.
This morning there were 3 vans, 2 mini diggers, 1 full size digger, 2 generators, 1 tipper lorry - and a partridge in lots of blue plastic railing and considerably more 6 foot fence. They're still at it.
I've just taken a letter to the postbox (not prompted by curiosity one little bit) and now there are 2 BIG holes and a trench that runs most of the length of the old road. Almost halfway to the post box, in fact.
I would have taken photos, but the workmen were giving me funny looks.
