Here we go again

May 13, 2008 12:38

The world is pretty overwhelming at the moment, so guess what?   I'm going to concentrate on myself, for a change.

I am thinking about the horrors that are occurring elsewhere, I just can't contribute anything useful - beyond a couple of quid to the aid agencies.  But if we all do a couple of quid, it will certainly mount up, no?

Anyway, that aside, I just want to mention a little oddity that occurred yesterday.  And it's bothering me - that, and five dozen other things, but never mind.

The oddity in question is that  yesterday we went to pay some bills at  the bank (yes, that really is an oddity).   There was a woman ahead of us in the queue -  slim, blonde, trendily dressed. And then she turned round and - Whoa....   I almost  stepped back.   It was like the climax of "Don't Look Now".

But don't I always argue that we should be able to wear whatever the hell we like, if it makes us feel good?     Yes I do.  Consciously.  But some of these attitudes will stick....   "She's too old to be wearing that stuff.  Mutton dressed as lamb."  (Yes, my hangups are showing.)

Here we go - ageism + sexism + body fascism =  Me, with my brains dribbling out down my nose.

Shut UP, Brain.  I know it's off-pissing, but we've got Stuff To Do before we can agonise more about this.....

*EDIT*

You know what, I'm not going to agonise any more about this, because the sum of it would come out as:

"And on top of everything else, I'm looking old!"

Well, you know what kiddo?  You should.    You're getting older.  People do.

How did
stwish   say the Russians would put it?  "Argghg, fuckit, is nature."    Yes *g*
