Pimp my Argentine: Gaby Heinze

Apr 16, 2008 18:09

So, Gaby Heinze. Starting with the visuals might be a good idea, so here we are, a few basic facts and some photos.

Born: Crespo, Entre Rios Province, Argentina, 19 April, 1978 (coming up on 30, then)

Height, weight, general disposition: 5ft 10 in, 176 cm, aggressive but not violent

Clubs: Newell's Old Boys, Valladolid, Sporting Lisbon, Paris St Germain, Manchester United, now Real Madrid

No: 16, usually plays left back with occasional forays into the centre.

Lots of contradictions about Heinze, he is deeply attached to Argentina, but his antecedents are European, his mother is Italian and his father is descended from a Volga German family, as are most people in Crespo. He has that odd quality that Zlatan has, of being loyal to all and to none of the teams for which he has played. He was voted the United fans Player of the Year in his first season, but was so desperate to go to Liverpool in 2007 that he took Manchester United to an FA tribunal.

Heinze was voted the hardest defender in the French league, but he is a man who cries every time that he plays for Argentina. In the free for all at the end of the Argentina-Germany quarter final in 2006 Heinze is in the middle, arguing, but when things were finally disentangled it became clear that all he did was argue, unlike some of his fellow players he didn't feel the need to hit anyone.

I'm pimping him because he's an interesting man, seemingly unaware that he is handsome, he doesn't tend to do model shoots, and his dress sense is notoriously bad. There isn't much fic about him, but some of what is there is very good, a reflection of his rather enigmatic public personality.
