He always had issues with words (and their meanings) and this one was no exception. He sighs when it doesn't unravel, and tries (again) to wrap his head around it; realises he cannot call Stevie for an explanation, feels a sense of dread. He has a right, he tells himself, a right to privacy this time around. The wedding bells of yesterday still chime in his head, champagne coloured, ringing like his hangover.
He tries to search for his Spanish-English dictionary but the sunlight blinds him, a flash of gold-
Permanency, he suddenly realises, (is) that ring on his finger.

He closes the tap (good thing too; the hot water was due to run out any second) and steps out of the shower, forcing a cloud of steam to race away from him. A towel is pressed against his naked skin and he steels himself against the elements. It hits him immediately, the cold he tried to escape; he's alone and the silence is inescapable; (denies his attempt to drown himself; false), brings the towel tight around him, pretends the texture doesn't make him miss those arms. He tries to convince - he’s clean; but all that’s washed away are tears.
