“How far away is LA?” Romeo asks as they sit down on a bench in the park. Íker falls silent, just moments ago unaware that such a simple question can be so difficult to answer.
“I don’t know, hijo,” he starts slowly, insisting on choosing his words carefully, “but you’ve been there.”
Then Romeo grows quiet, his feet swinging, unable to reach the ground.
“It’s not Madrid,” he decides. “It’s a little like London…but it’s not Madrid.”
Íker doesn’t say anything.
“It’s far away,” Romeo continues. “Daddy slept on the plane.”
Íker hesitates. “Do you like it?”
“No. Daddy doesn’t.”

“I figured as much,” Aleks replies with a grin that makes Cesc a little redder in the face. He snatches it back and hides it deep in his bag before brushing by Aleks and saying, “Yeah, well, I saw the Czech shorts in your locker too, but I didn’t say anything!”

He shakes his head. “Milan is home. (London is not, will never be.) Istanbul is…”
“…where it all goes wrong.”
“You forget,” he says and you still don’t understand.
It isn’t until after he leaves that you see half-empty champagne bottles and a number of kisses.
